At the end, it all about lists

Coffee is kicking in. If you are like myself, you have notice (and not for the first time) that at the end of each year people feel the need to compile lists. lists about everything and usually "top 10" "ton 20" or "ton 100" of this or that. So i thought i would compile a list of the lists for your list viewing convenience. They will be mostly drawn from several websites that seems to have an affinity for enumeration. Ok, this first one is pretty accurate The Best 20 T.V. Shows of the Decade (2000-2009) Guesses? next, The 10 Best Comedians of the Decade, ugh, this one gives me anxiety just looking at this ridiculously long list 2009 Year-end Online Music, Pitchfork does some good lists... Top 50 Albums of 2009 and Top 100 Tracks of 2009. Boston Globe put out 10 Unforgettable Books for the Decade, changing course a wee bit Fashionising blog compiled sublists of Fashion Trends of 2009. The New York Times Top 10 Travel Stories of 2009. are you listed out yet? i may be. there are more lists out there. search, list, compile, and say goodbye to a decade.

search and discover

music. now with ipods and other portable music devices we can make playlists that basically make walking down Sunset Blvd to the metro seem like a movie. our personal soundtrack. oh, yeah. but even with about 4,000 songs on my ipod i constantly want the new and lesser heard tracks from emerging artists. and its easy now with the internet and the awesome review websites that are there to help scratch our musical itch. i love discovering and sharing new music i have found, so i guess will share the various sites that i find stuff... WOXY, an amazing radio station bases out of Austin, Texas that plays fresh tracks and new bands. you can download an iphone app and stream it into your car radio or listen in your itunes.
Paste Magazine . They have reviews on just about everything and great music compilations. Filter Magazine has its finger on the indie label pulse and i have heard the thump of some pretty awesome bands and PitchFork which a good friend of mine, Jess, introduced me too. she was always asking me if i had heard of this band or that band and i was amazed. so, when i asked her where she found them, she said Pitchfork. there you go. discover, listen, love, enjoy

the danger of Etsy

For those of you still in the dark, let me show you the luminous light (redundant? pah!) of ETSY its a dangerous and and wonderful world FULL of handmade sellers. this site enables people, such as you or i, to sell the things we have created and for buyers to search for basically anything that they can think of. in my constant browsing here are some inspiring and breath taking sellers. Sarah Seven whose dresses are insanely beautiful (albeit expensive) and unique.

Slide Sideways has creative and fun prints for cards and wall art
and Solidio constructor of unique and earthy wooden belt buckles.
so, i hope you are hooked now... browse and delve deep into the wonderful world of etsy.

Oh, say, thats artsy

Young talent. Mitch Vandruff has it. he is a young artist in Northern California that i was introduced to his art through my brother's friend. his work is fascinating to look at and you get a wee glimpse into an artist's mind. my favorites are Mr. Squiggles , Pattern and Sadness to Gladness.

Fringe!!!

i had cut up an old white t-shirt initially to be a funky accessory over a black dress or shirt. it didn't turn out so well. so the other day i just chopped it up and made a scarfish necklace thing and wore it to work. people loved it. soooo i made another this morning from a green t-shirt (in the holiday spirit of course) and i am rather pleases how it turned out. needless to say im wearing it to work today. cut, imagine, and live.

Ready....Made

i have been subscribing to this magazine for about two years now and still can't wait for it to come in the mail. as i was waiting for my flight to Bejing, China, i heard Ready Made was calling my name from a self in the Vancouver, Canada airport. Its been love ever since. Its a type of DIY mag, but not the cheesey country-home-full-of-frumpy-quilts-and-hearts kind, but the awesome-impress-your-friends-and maybe-even-yourself kind. not only are there stellar projects there are articles about artists, entrepreneurs, new funky shops, and progressors (made that one up) of our culture. first reading this magazine i was living in northern california and a great majority of the people and events they were talking about were stemming from the artist heartbeat of Los Angeles. so, where do i find myself a year later? yep, L to the A. God, i love it. Fresh Pressed, a local DIY silk screen shop, had a whole spread in the feb/mar issue. several college friends started a home-brewing beer, so an artist friend and i collaborated and created this shirt for them. my point being, you should check this stuff out and you don't have to live in LA either. enjoy and create!

fonts for followers

i am sure that many of you are familiar with the world of fonts. i'm fascinated. its an addiction, i can't have enough of them. they are so fun. i hope you can see all the different ones i use in each posting, if you can't i have put the font name in the tags section. at the end of each post. also, here is the website that has oodles of free and fantastic fonts for you (if you haven't noticed, im trying to get as many "f" words in here as possible without using THE "f" word. got to keep in PC or would that be BC {bloggingly correct}). aaaaanyway. check out Dafont . have your followers say "that font looks good on you." eesh. i need to stop. type and enjoy

Mix CDs

I am sure you remember The Office episode when Michael meets Holly for the first time and he makes a ridiculous CD mix for her. while i am sure i am not the only one who has received a CD where each song was handpicked to convey a subtle and not so subtle message, i love receiving random CDs. for all of us that are scraping by but might have a few blank CDs in a drawer, mix some CDs for friends (the I-love-this-song-and-so-will-you kind) as xmas presents. and to assist you in your compilation here are 150 free song downloads from Amoeba Records. give, listen, and enjoy!

Put a Little Wax On

For those of you in rainy parts of the globe check this out!!! by far one of the coolest products i have seen Greenland Wax

The Reason... the exposure

Alright, i can see how people become addicted to blogging. Once you get the hang of it, every improvement is intoxicating. sorry, i digress. i started making flowers from recycled and reclaimed fabric for myself and wear them to work. soon a close friend asked me to make some for her wedding. another friend works at a salon and her boss was interested in selling them. Its truly an amazing feeling to see someone wearing and appreciating a piece of creativity. i thought i would post a piece or two. i love feedback.

the headband is from the bottom of a super soft cashmere sweater

made from a men's button up shirt. the headband has the button holes. i thought it was fun

The Perils and Wonders

Second post. mmm. wanted to make it good. perils of being just one blog in a galaxy of blogs. so i will tell you that you should listen to The xx . a twenty-something band that will lull you, but make you want to dance all at once. listen, groove and love.

Philosophy Behind the Lemon

The art style that inspires me the most. Art Nouveau.

Nouveau basically mean "new and different, often fashionably so; newly arrived or developed."
Lemon is a synonym for imperfection
Thus, we arrive at Nouveau Lemon which basically ends up meaning "developed imperfection."

And my philosophy behind that is kind of my philosophy for life.... I love things that don't match (yet do somehow) and that are torn, ripped, stained.... I believe that if we constantly practice finding and recognizing the beauty in life's imperfections we can start to see the beauty in our imperfection and be satisfied with who we are.
